Intensification of the role of Sakpateni Chamber of Appeals, hence, formation of a robust intellectual property system, is one of the components of the European Union-Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP). Within the EUGIPP, the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) will assist Sakpatenti in elaboration of the consecutiveness of the Chamber decisions. In order to discuss the cooperation format, Mr. Mindia Davitadze, Sakpatent Chairman, met with Mr. Theophile Margellos, President of the EUIPO Boards of Appeal.
According to the
decision of the parties, the EUIPO will share the best practices and experience
related with the issue, will analyze the legislation regulating the Chamber of
Appeals of Sakpatenti and introduce the Management Regulation of the EUIPO
Boards of Appeal in order to provide further recommendations. At the meeting,
an initiative was put forward to organize a seminar on alternative dispute
resolution practice (ADR) on the basis of the experience of the EUIPO Boards of
Appeal and the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center. The seminar will be aimed
at approximation with the EUIPO and international standards and raising
awareness on ADR advantages for right holders, thus allowing them to benefit
fully from the ADR practice as well as to avoid the high costs related with the
litigation. Within the seminar, the Georgian counterparts, Sakpatenti staff
members and patent attorneys will receive information on the best practices and
mediation results.
The EUGIPP is the European
Union-Georgia Intellectual Property Project, which aims to support the
intellectual property system in Georgia. The EUGIPP is a three-year project and
will be completed at the end of 2022. On behalf of the European Union, the
project is implemented by the European Union Intellectual Property Office
(EUIPO), and its main beneficiary is the National Intellectual Property Centre
of Georgia Sakpatenti.
